Frequently Asked Questions
What is the mission of the Foundation?
We are a Christian charitable organization serving the health needs of the community in harmony with the tenets of the Free Methodist Church of North America.

When was Butterfield Memorial Foundation formed?
The Home of Redeeming Love that began in early 1900 grew into Deaconess Hospital that subsequently sold in 2005.  At the time of the sale, the hospital board voted to establish the foundation with the sale proceeds.

What type of grants do you fund?
Our board has identified 3 areas of focus:

Primary Focus
We serve the medical needs of vulnerable populations by identifying and helping to shape Christian Primary Care Centers of Excellence in Oklahoma.  We invest in well-established, innovative organizations that have a strong record of success and are willing and able to influence, train and nurture other Christian Healthcare Centers and clinics.

Secondary Focus
We envision strategic methods for attracting and retaining Christian Primary Care Health Providers to Central Oklahoma with the goal of improving the number of providers available to Christian charitable healthcare organizations.

Tertiary Focus
We provide support to overseas medical missions with a domestic U.S. based 501(c)3 that enhances their healthcare capacity, trains indigenous health care providers, and improves health-related conditions in their community.  Our primary granting area is Central Oklahoma and therefore, only a small percentage of available funds are set aside for this purpose.

What are your grant cycle deadlines?
We accept grant applications/proposals by invitation only.  Therefore, we do not publish deadlines.

What type of projects are not funded by the Butterfield Memorial Foundation?
Grants to individuals
Organizations unable to give evidence of an active Christian presence
Projects outside our three focus areas

If my organization is interested in applying for a grant, what should we do?
The Foundation does not accept unsolicited requests for funding.  However, we are always open to hearing from Christian nonprofits doing work that is within our areas of funding focus.  Our email address is info@butterfieldfoundation.org.

Who decides which projects are funded by the Butterfield Memorial Foundation?
Our initiatives are approved by the Foundation's Board of Directors.
